Arts and Sgt. York's community

York General Store and Visitor Center, in conjunction with the Alvin C. York State Historic Park, hosted an event May 7, 2011, that brought Tennessee artists, primarily from the Upper Cumberland and surrounding area, to Pall Mall for a celebration of folk and traditional arts. All American and Tennessee history students from private, public and home schools were invited to take special tours. Also invited to the free event were the general public, elected officials and VIP guests from the Tennessee General Assembly and United States Congress. Those wishing to support the arts in Tennessee and similar events should consider buying a specialty license plate to benefit the Tennessee Arts Commission. Proceeds from these sales helped support projects like the one hosted at Sgt. York's home in 2011. Funds for The Art of Work Celebration on April 28, 2012, are being sought from the Arts Build Communities funds, made possible by the sale of these license plates.
