York Grist Mill is among the two dozen buildings featured in a special exhibit through Dec. 31, 2011, at Cheekwood Arts and Gardens in Nashville. The outdoor exhibition called “Trains! Tennessee in G” is taking its visitors on a trip across the State of Tennessee and exploring its fascinating history through the state's most famous landmarks. Seven trains are running all day in the model garden railroad along lines. The exhibit’s incredible architecture, landscapes and realistic effects are fascinating.
Each building has been intricately handcrafted using natural materials, including twigs, bark, leaves, acorns and pebbles. More than 2,500 tiny trees, shrubs, groundcovers and flowering plants in 250 varieties create the landscape for the train, complete with a waterfall. The display uses G-scale trains – models created many times smaller than full-size locomotives. The trains are constructed of brass, stainless steel and plastic, and they specially designed to safely operate in rain, snow or other wet conditions.
